CONSTITUTION DAY

Show me a group of people without a constitution and I will show you their funny end. #Godsdoll 2020#

It is important we have something we are governed by as a country, even as an individual if you don’t have principles you live by, anyone can easily decide for you.

To show we have our freedom, we have a constitution we are proud of.

Did you know?

  1. The Constitution of Ghanais the supreme law of the Republic of Ghana?
  2. It was approved on 28 April 1992 through a national referendumafter 92% support?
  3. It defines the fundamental political principles, establishing the structure, procedures, powers and duties of the government, structure of the judiciaryand legislature, and spells out the fundamental rights and duties of citizens?
  4. It is made up of 26 chapters, not including the preamble?

Okay let us answer some few questions together:

How many constitutions does Ghana have?

Since the first republican Constitution in 1960, Ghana has had three other Constitutions. These are the 1969, 1979 and 1992 Constitutions. The current 1992 Constitution is available in the modern constitutions volumes of Constitutions of the Countries of the World.

What type of constitution is Ghana using?

The 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana that came into effect on January 7, 1993, provides the basic charter for the country’s fourth attempt at republican democratic government since independence in 1957. It declares Ghana to be a unitary republic with sovereignty residing in the Ghanaian people.

What is the highest law in Ghana?

Article 11 of the 1992 Constitution provides that, The common law of Ghana shall comprise the rules of law generally known as the common law, the rules generally known as the doctrines of equity and the rules of customary law including those determined by the Superior Court of Judicature.
